Paradise
Paradise originally meant a garden, park, or pleasure ground. In Scripture it becomes a figure for the blessed dwelling of the righteous and is associated with Eden, Christ’s promise to the repentant thief, and the tree of life.
Biblical Usage
The Septuagint uses paradise in translating or describing Eden. In the New Testament, Jesus promised the repentant thief that he would be with Him in Paradise, Paul spoke of being caught up into Paradise, and Revelation places the tree of life in the Paradise of God. These uses connect the term with blessedness, rest, and the dwelling of the righteous.
