Paul
Paul, formerly called Saul, was an apostle of Jesus Christ and a major preacher of the gospel to the Gentiles. Born in Tarsus and trained in Judaism, he was converted while persecuting Christians and later carried the gospel through much of the Roman world.
Biblical Usage
Paul’s conversion changed him from an active persecutor of the followers of Christ into a preacher who proclaimed Jesus as the Son of God. The accounts of his conversion describe a heavenly light, the voice of Jesus, his temporary blindness, the ministry of Ananias, and his baptism. He is known in Scripture by Saul before his work as a preacher to the Gentiles.
