Amoz was the father of the prophet Isaiah and is repeatedly named in the headings and narratives associated with Isaiah's ministry.
Biography
Isaiah is frequently identified as 'Isaiah son of Amoz' in both the Book of Isaiah and the historical narratives of Kings and Chronicles. Scripture does not provide a biography, occupation, genealogy, or prophetic role for Amoz himself. Later traditions sometimes attempt to connect him with the royal family, but that relationship is not stated in the biblical text. Amoz should also not be confused with the prophet Amos; the names are distinct.
